Wearable device alias devices worn on the body will later be able to receive the input of flip-style touchpad that is used to control gadgets through body gestures. Control music playback on the phone, for example, can be done by tapping or swiping a finger over jeans textile materials.
"We had the genius in ATAP that will help develop and realize this platform," said Paul Dillinger of Levi Strauss, as summarized Kompas Tekno from The Verge, Monday (06/01/2015).
Named "Project Jacquard", the development of the smart jeans is the brainchild of Advanced Technology and Projects division (ATAP) Google. ROOF team plans to make smart jeans material using special conductive fibers stitched together with usual textile materials.
These special fibers can later be used with a wide variety of textile materials, not limited to jeans only. The design of the clothes can be left entirely to the designers. Parts that can accept input can be made to stand out from the other parts, for example by being given a different color, or made together. Can also be restricted to certain areas.
Although sophisticated, smart jeans can later be treated as ordinary textile materials. "It's washable," said Emre Karagozler of Google ROOF, who calls homemade experimental products it as "interactive textiles". "The treatments like normal fabric," he said.
In addition Jacquard Project, Google is also developing another experiment called Project Soli involving a chip "radar".
